The Hong Kong Association of Private Eye Surgeons was formed in 1996. It was an association of about thirty private practicing eye doctors since its establishment. Through out the years, it had grown to the present of about one hundred members. Most of the private practicing eye doctors of our association had worked before in the Government or in institutions like the Hong Kong University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Private practice was another way of serving the people of Hong Kong. It was a way to fulfill the ideal and vision of the individual eye doctor. He or she could work independently to pursue a chosen career.

香港執業眼科醫生會成立於1996年。最初會員人數為30人，現在已達到約100人。我們的會員醫生在私人執業前多在公營醫療機構和兩所大學工作。我們希望在私營的崗位上亦同樣為市民作出貢獻。
我們致力於﹕

-	為市民提供公營以外的優質眼科服務
-	引入新的科技，以提高醫療水準
-	普及眼科健康的常識
-	參與各樣慈善工作，使基層市民亦可得到優質眼科服務

In the past, our members, apart from their private practice, worked in many community projects and low cost clinics of many charitable organisations in Hong Kong. We were involved in public educational programmes in promoting ophthalmic health education in Hong Kong. We had cooperation with the Hospital Authority in setting up clinics in those hospitals without eye service.

The private eye doctors contributed much to the advancement to the advancement of Ophthalmology in Hong Kong. They had introduced many new and advanced technologies to the people of Hong Kong. The private eye doctors played a leading role in the introduction of intra-ocular lens to cataract patients in Hong Kong. Argon laser, excimer laser, femtosecond laser and conductive keratoplasty were all first made available to the people of Hong Kong in the private sector.

In the future, we can expect the continuous increase in the number of private eye doctors in our association. We can anticipate further active participations in charitable eye services in Hog Kong. More technological advancement in Ophthalmology will be introduced to Hong Kong. We play an important role in the health delivery system of Hong Kong by providing an alternative, a dual system with choice for the benefit of the people of Hong Kong.
